So last night, my boyfriend and I decided to go out. This was my first time going out to eat since I decided to not eat meat anymore.
We went to Mellow Mushroom. They have really good pizza there...it's delicious. They actually have lots of "healthier" options to choose from. Veggie burgers, gluten free crust, that kinda thing.
I couldn't get my boyfriend to do the gluten free crust, so we decided on a "Red Skin Potato Pizza" which included:
Sliced red potatoes
Basil
Sour Cream (not vegan, sorry)
Buffalo Sauce
......and bacon!!!!
NO I DID NOT EAT THE BACON! :)
He of course had to have it, so we only got the bacon on half and he enjoyed it and kept making remarks how good it tasted. I really was proud of myself though, I had one slice of meatless pizza and had a nice salad as an appetizer. It was hard and I know it still will be hard as time goes on.
The dairy is quite hard for me to give up. I am trying many different types of options though and so far so good on that. I truly never realized how much dairy is in what we eat. But still this is only (almost) the end of week one and I haven't eaten any meat yet. I will give myself a pat on the back for that one!
Well lets see how the next two days of the weekend goes!
Until next time,
Melissa

Day 3
Well everyone...it's day three and I'm still alive!
Surprisingly it has not been that horrible. I really haven't had any cravings for anything in particular but the food I've been eating is pretty darn good. I have been doing misty veggies, nuts, fruits, soups, cereals, cashew milk, etc.
I have been trying to get more educated on what is good to eat and what will help with the protein and such. I've been looking up recipes on Pinterest to get ideas. I bought a few things at target and publix as well! I got some really good stuff and it is quite delicious.
I'm going to do a post this weekend about some of the items I've tried and hopefully post a YouTube video! My cousins are coming in from North Carolina and my cousin who is my age is a vegetarian. I'm going to talk with her to get any advice she can give!
One thing I've noticed is that my stomach doesn't feel so lousy after eating. It simply feels "normal"? I guess you could say. I'm happy. This is going to be hard, but I know it's going to make me a healthier person and will be better for the environment.
Until next time,
Melissa

Whats in my lunchbox?
So today I packed a (mostly) vegan lunch!
Here is what was included in my lunchbox:
Wheat wrap with almond butter, honey, and banana (Yes, I know honey is not vegan but I am trying)
Baby carrots with hummus
Cut up strawberries
Apple
Yogurt (not vegan, obv!)
Larabar
I need to add more protein so this weekend I am going to try and get some nuts, beans, tofu, etc. to make a "bowl" of food that I can just heat up at work and eat from there.
I will let you know how it goes.
Have a great day!
Until next time,

March 1st, New Beginnings
Well this is weird. I never believed I would say this. But....I am (trying) to go vegan! Trust me, if you had to think of someone who would never make the switch, it would be me. I worked at a Chick-fil-A for six years. They SLAY the chicken game (and I mean literally.)
Why am I doing this? To be cool?
No.
The past few months I have been feeling sluggish after eating. Being in college, working, trying to find time to have a social life, work out, and eat healthy is hella hard. So eating on the go is usually my go to option.
After doing some research about our meat and cheese in America, I was shocked. I had no idea the kinds of things they do to our animals. Eating a plant-based diet does wonders for your health. I know that meats and dairy have lots of important nutrients and things in them, but so does veggies, fruits, nuts, and oats. There are many viable ways of getting what my body needs from a plant-based diet.
So why not give it a try?
It is going to be hard - I know this. I have been eating meat/dairy for 22 years! And boy oh boy do I love cheese...probably more than chicken. I know that dairy will be the hardest for me to give up, but I will try. This change isn't going to happen overnight, I don't expect it to! But by slowly educating myself on veganism and the proper way to make my body healthy, I think this change will be amazing.
This blog will be dedicated to my journey. I also plan to share with you my grocery hauls, some meals I make, etc. Note: I AM NEW TO THIS! So any tips or advice are always appreciated.
Until next time,
-Melissa
